Nevada County

Beautiful Nevada County lies in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, in the heart of the Gold Country. Historically it was a bustling center of mining and logging, experiencing it's first boom during the California Gold Rush and Nevada County is proud to preserve its Gold Rush past. It is truly a living, historic community with lovely restored and original
examples of Victorian and early 20th century architecture.

This legacy is evident in the charming, historic towns surrounded by pine-forested hills, extending from graceful oak shaded pastures of Penn Valley in the lower elevations, to the communities of Grass Valley and Nevada City situated below the heavy snow line, to the Town of Truckee in the glorious Sierra Nevada.

Many newcomers have chosen to leave behind the congestion and crime of the urban areas of California to call our beautiful foothills their home. Captivated by the beauty and the casual lifestyle and the small town friendliness, they have found a way to get back to what is important in life.

  No matter what your housing preference, the  choices   are wide! Rolling hills, oaks, and  ranches, or stunning   views of the Sierras!  Several rural residential   development  communities blend the beauty of trees,   lakes  and wildlife with the modem conveniences of   well-maintained roads, public sewer and water  systems, golf courses, clubhouses or tennis  courts. Downtown   living in one of the quaint towns, or in one of the new  subdivisions on the outskirts of town, which offer in-town amenities and more contemporary designs. There are many apartment complexes, town homes and mobile home parks to choose from as well.

Yet even with all of its rural appeal, Nevada County is still not isolated. Sacramento is only an hour's drive, San Francisco is just 150 miles away, and Reno and Lake Tahoe are within easy driving distance for a day trip.

Nevada County businesses are diverse and industry is growing. Along with a highly recognized arts and cultural community, historical and recreational tourism, light manufacturing and a robust home based business service economy, many "high tech" companies and professionals have made Grass Valley and Nevada City their home. In fact, Nevada County has recently been nicknamed "Silicon Valley in the Sierras".

Educational standards for the county Nevada County Schools continue to be extremely high. The beautiful new Sierra College Campus in Grass Valley opened in 1996, offering degree and certificate programs tied to local jobs to train workers for the local economy.

Recreational opportunities in Nevada County cover all seasons and all types of family fun: year-round hiking, camping, gold panning, fishing, skiing, horseback riding, hunting, mountain biking, boating and swimming, all in some of the most beautiful scenery California has to offer. In fact, much of Nevada County is within the Tahoe National Forest, which covers more than 800,000 acres, encompassing the Yuba River, the north fork of the American River and the Truckee River.
